The Prophet (s.a.w., sallallahu' alayhi wa sallam meaning: may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Islam has been built upon five things: declaring that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah; the establishment of salaah (five compulsory daily prayers; the payment of zakaah (obligatory charity); the Hajj (pilgrimage to the House of Allah, if one is able); and sawm of Ramadan (fasting in the month of Ramadan).” (Bukhari 1/ 7) This final pillar of Islam is obligatory, at least once in a lifetime, upon all sane Muslims, who reach the age of puberty, and are physically and financially able to make the journey. Allah the Almighty tells us in His Book: “... And Hajj (pilgrimage to Makkah) to the House (Ka‘bah) is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, those who can afford the expenses (for conveyance, provision and residence); and whoever disbelieves (i.e. denies Hajj, then he is a disbeliever of Allah), then Allah stands not in need of any of the ‘Alâmin (mankind and jinn).” (Qur’an 3:97) Forgiveness of Sins When we perform the Hajj rites properly we attain tremendous rewards. One of which is Allah’s forgiveness of all our past sins. This means our eternal happiness and success in Paradise. In the following authentic Ahâdîth we learn the following very inspiring teachings from the Prophet (s.a.w.): “He who came to this House (the Ka’bah) (with the intention in performing Hajj) without speaking or committing indecencies, would return (free from sin) as on the day his mother bore him.” (Muslim, 2/3129) “From one ‘Umrah to another is expiation for what is between them and Hajj Mabrûr has no reward except Paradise.” (Bukhari and Muslim) By Hajj Mabrûr it means the Hajj accepted by Allah for being performed perfectly according to the Prophet’s Sunnah with legally earned money avoiding sinful and evil deeds during Hajj.

मेरे अल्लाह...बुराई से बचाना मुझको....इस दुआ के साथ ईद मुबारक "तुम गले से आ मिलो, सारा गिला जाता रहे" ईद हमारी गंगा-जमनी तहज़ीब के उन ख़ास त्योहारों में से है जिन्हें सदियों से हम साथ मनाते आ रहे हैं। लेकिन 21वीं सदी के इस माहौल में चाहे ईद हो या दीवाली, सिर्फ़ रस्में अदा हो रही हैं। किसी शायर का ये शेर ऐसे ही हालात का आइना है – मिल के होती थी कभी ईद भी दीवाली भी। अब ये हालत है कि डर-डर के गले मिलते हैं।। इस घड़ी दिल दुआ मांगना चाहता है कि ऐ ऊपरवाले हम कुछ कम में भी गुज़ारा कर लेंगे लेकिन हमारी इस दुनिया को अपनी रहमतों की बस इतनी झलक दे दे कि जब कोई लिखने वाला किसी भी त्योहार पर लिखने के लिये क़लम उठाये तो ऐसे न शुरू करे जैसे ये लेख शुरू हुआ है। ईद विषय पर लिखने का आदेश है तो इरादा कर रहा हूं कि पाठकों को मुबारकबाद दूं और ईद के महत्व पर कुछ रौशनी डालूं लेकिन क्या करूं फिर हथौड़े की तरह एक शेर दिमाग़ पर वार कर रहा है। क़लम को मजबूर कर रहा है कि उसे भी 21वीं सदी के इस ईदनामे में जगह दी जाए । ये सियासत है मेरे मुल्क की अरबाबे-वतन। ईद के दिन भी यहां क़त्ल हुआ करते हैं।। गुज़रा हुआ ज़माना हो या पल-पल गुज़र कर इतिहास बनता ये वर्तमान,इसे जानने के लिये इतिहास की नहीं साहित्य की ज़रूरत है। क्योंकि साहित्य आम आदमी का इतिहास है, इसलिये जो शेर (शायरों के नाम मुझे मालूम नहीं वरना ज़रूर लिखता) दिमाग़ में कौंध रहे हैं वो शायद आप सबके सामने आना चाहते हैं मैं यही सोच के उनका माध्यम बन रहा हूं। ये सच है कि समाज कोई भी हो एक दिन का करिश्मा नहीं होता। सदियों में उसकी नींव मज़बूत होती है। यही हाल हमारी गंगा-जमनी तहज़ीब का भी है। किसी भी दूसरे देश में ईद और दीवाली को वर्गों में बांट कर देखा जा सकता है लेकिन हमारी परंपराओं में ये त्योहार किसी समुदाय का नहीं, हमारा है, हम देशवासियों का है। वो कहते हैं न कि जो चीज़ ख़ूबसूरत होती है उसे लोगों की नज़र लग जाती है। यही हो रहा है हमारी सांझी विरासत के साथ। इसे दुनिया की नज़र लग गई है। हमारी इसी दुनिया में ईद किस तरह होती रही है आइये शेरों के ज़रिये इसका लुत्फ़ उठाते हैं। आरंभ उस शेर से जिसमें ईद की अहमियत को मानवता के मूल्यों पर परखने का जज़्बा है- किसी का बांट ले ग़म और किसी के काम आयें, हमारे वास्ते वो रोज़े- ईद होता है।। होली ही की तरह ईद भी त्योहार है गले मिलने का। यक़ीन मानिये जादू की ये झप्पी न जाने कितने गिले शिकवे मिटा देती है। लेकिन जनाब, ख़ुशी के साथ ग़म की टीसें जब मिलती हैं तो दर्द का मज़ा दुगना हो जाता है। त्योहार तो उनका भी है जो बिरह की आग में जल रहे हैं। एक आशिक़ की सर्द आहों में ईद का ये मज़ा यूं सजता है। मुझको तेरी न तुझे मेरी ख़बर आयेगी। ईद अबकी भी दवे पांव गुज़र जायेगी।। ये तो बात है उनकी जिनकी क़िस्मत में मिलना नहीं नसीब लेकिन ऐसे भी आशिक़ कम नहीं जिनके लिये ईद का त्योहार उम्मीदों के पंख लगा के आता है। ज़रा मुलाहिज़ा कीजिये इनकी फ़रियाद- ये वक़्त मुबारक है मिलो आके गले तुम। फिर हमसे ज़रा हंस के कहो ईद मुबारक।। ये लीजिये ये आशिक़ साहब तो जल-भुन कर ख़ाक हुए जा रहे हैं। लगता है इनकी तमन्नाओं के पूरा होने का वक़्त अभी नहीं आया है- ब-रोज़े ईद मयस्सर जो तेरी दीद नहीं। तो मेरी ईद क्या, अच्छा है ऐसी ईद न हो।। या फिर ये शेर- जिनकी क़िस्मत में हो हर रोज़ सितम ही सहना। ईद, बतला कि तू उनके लिये क्या लाई है।। मुझे आज भी याद है कि मैं बचपन में प्रेमचंद की कहानी ईदगाह पढ़कर ख़ूब रोया करता था। हमीद के सारे दोस्त खिलौने ख़रीद रहे थे लेकिन हमीद को तो वो चिमटा ख़रीदना था जो उसकी मां के हाथों को जलने से रोक सके। इस शेर में भी एक ग़रीब के घर ईद की अगवानी देखिये- ईद आती है अमीरों के घरों में, बच्चों। हम ग़रीबों को भला ईद से लेना क्या है।। अब इतने शेरों में वो शेर कैसे कोई भूल सकता है जो ईद के दिन हर महफ़िल में किसी न किसी के मुंह से ज़रूर निकल पड़ता है- ईद का दिन है गले आज तो मिल लो जानम। रस्में दुनिया भी है, मौक़ा भी है, दस्तूर भी है।। ईद का दिन यक़ीनन सबकी ख़ुशियों का दिन है, उनके लिये तो और भी ख़ुशी का दिन है जिन्होंने 30 दिन तक संयम की परीक्षा दी है। लेकिन कुछ लोगों के लिये ख़ुशियों का ये दिन आम दिनों के मुक़ाबले कुछ ज़्यादा जल्दी गुज़रता हुआ प्रतीत होता है, तभी तो किसी ने कहा है- ईद का दिन और इतना मुख़्तसर। दिन गिने जाते थे जिस दिन के लिये।। शेरों की ज़बानी हमारी ये गुफ़्तुगू आपको कैसी लगी। मेरी कोशिश तो यही थी कि आपको ईद से संबधित कुछ अशआर सुनाऊं और लुत्फ़अंदोज़ करूं। हो सकता है कि मेरी ये कोशिश बेकार चली गई हो लेकिन चलते चलते किसी का ये शेर आपको ज़रूर सुनाऊंगा, ऐसा लग रहा है जैसे शायर मेरे दिल की बात कह रहा है- हों मबारक तुमको ख़शियां ईद के मेरे अज़ीज़। जब किसीसे ईद मिलना याद कर लेना मुझे।।ईद मुबारक

तक़रीबन एक साल पहले एक साहब ने हमसे सवाल किया था- अगर खाना सामने रखा हो, तो क्या उसे खाये बिना पेट भर जाएगा ? इसके दो जवाब हैं- एक दुनियावी और दूसरा रूहानी... पहला, खाना खाये बिना पेट नहीं भर सकता... अल्लाह ने जिस्म दिया है, पेट दिया है, तो भूख भी दी है, जो खाना खाने से ही मिट सकती है... बाज़ वक़्त खाना खाने से भी भूख नहीं मिटती... इसी से वाबस्ता एक वाक़िया है... तक़रीबन तीन साल पहले की बात है... हम भाई के घर आए हुए थे... दोपहर का वक़्त था... खाने में क़ौरमा और नान था... बहुत ज़्यादा भूख लगी हो, तो भी पौने या एक नान से पेट भर जाता है... हमने पूरा नान खाया, लेकिन अब भी बहुत भूख लगी थी... लग रहा था, जैसे हमने एक लुक़मा तक न खाया हो... भूख में एक लुक़मा भी खा लिया जाए, तो कुछ तो तसल्ली होती है, लेकिन यहां तो वो भी नहीं... भूख से हमारा बुरा हाल था... हम पानी पीकर दस्तरख़ान से उठ गए... शर्म की वजह से और खा नहीं सकते थे... तक़रीबन एक-डेढ़ घंटे तक यूं ही बैचैन रहे... समझ नहीं आ रहा था कि आख़िर माजरा क्या है... फिर हमने एक कटोरी में छोटी इलायची रखी देखीं... हमने एक इलायची ली... एक दुआ पढ़ी और उसे खा लिया... यक़ीन जानिये भूख ग़ायब हो चुकी थी... पेट भरे होने का अहसास होने लगा... अब दूसरा रूहानी जवाब, जब इंसान रोज़े में होता है, तो उसके सामने दुनिया की नेमतें रख दी जाएं, तो भी उसका दिल नहीं ललचाता... इंसान जब रूहानी ज़िन्दगी जीने लगता है, तो जिस्म की ज़रूरतें उसके लिए बेमानी हो जाया करती हैं... उसे सिर्फ़ अपनी रूह की ग़िज़ा चाहिए होती है, रूह की ग़िज़ा मुहब्बत है, इबादत है... मुहब्बत और इबादत में ख़ुद को फ़ना करने में जो सुकून है, उसके सामने दुनियावी लज़्ज़तें बेमानी हैं... अब जिस्म है, तो भूख भी होगी... ऐसे लोगों को ज़ायक़े से कोई लेना-देना नहीं होता... सिर्फ़ पेट भरना होता है, भले ही रूखी रोटी क्यों न हो... हम ख़ुद भूख से कम खाना खाते हैं... दिन में सिर्फ़ दो ही वक़्त खाना खाते हैं... कई बार सिर्फ़ एक वक़्त ही खाना खाते हैं... ऐसा नहीं है कि हम जानबूझ कर ऐसा करते हैं... क़ुदरती ये हमारी आदत में शुमार है... खाने से पहले हमें एक गिलास पानी ज़रूर चाहिए... जो लोग रूहानी ज़िन्दगी बसर करते हैं, वो हमारी इस तहरीर को अच्छे से समझ सकते हैं... We were to receive Mr Lachhman Singh Rathore who was visiting our Flight Unit to perform the last rites of his son, Flying Officer Vikram Singh. ~~ Only the day before, I had sent the telegram, “Deeply regret to inform that your son Flying Officer Vikram Singh lost his life in a flying accident early this morning. Death was instantaneous.” It was the first time for me- to meet and manage the bereaved next of kin, in this case the Father of the brave officer. ~~ While most of the desolate family members insist on seeing the body, many a time there isn’t a body to show !! Flying Officer Vikram Singh’s remains were only a few kilos –scrapped from what was left in the cockpit. We had to weigh the wooden coffin with wood and earth. ~~The pilot brought the helicopter to a perfect touchdown. Soon Mr Lachhman Singh Rathor was helped down the ladder.A small and frail man he was, maybe of 80 years, clad in an immaculate dhoti. ~~As I approached him, he asked in a quiet and dignified whisper, “Are you Venki, the Flight Commander?” “Yes Sir.” “Vikram had spoken to me about you. I’d like to speak to you alone for a minute.” ~~ We walked to the edge of the concrete apron. ‘I have lost a son, and you have lost a friend. I’m sure that you have taken great care in arranging the funeral. Please tell me when and where you want my presence and what you want me to do. I’ll be there for everything. Later, I would like to meet Vikram’s friends, see his room and, if it is permitted, visit his work place. I then would like to return home tomorrow morning.” ~~A commander couldn’t have given me clearer instructions. ~~The funeral, with full military honours, was concluded by late afternoon. After the final echoes of the ‘Last Post’ faded away, Lachhman Singh spent the evening talking to the Squadron Pilots. Vikram’s roommate took him to see Vikram’s room. Lachhman Singh desired to spend the night in his son’s room instead of the guest house we had reserved for him. Early next morning after a tour of the squadron area, my boss took him to his office. ~~A while later, the staff car took Lachhman Singh to the civil airfield two hours away. ~~As the car disappeared round the corner, I remarked to my Boss, “A brave man he is. Spoke to me like a General when he told me exactly what he expected from us during his stay here. I have never seen a more composed man on such an occasion. I admire him.” ~~ “Yes, Mr Lachhman Singh Rathore is a warrior in his own way. He sired three sons and has laid to rest all three of them. ~~ His first son Captain Ghanshyam Singh of the Gurkha Rifles was killed in Ladakh in 1962 War. His second son, Major Bir Singh, died along the Ichogil Canal in 1965 in an ambush. His youngest, Vikram Singh, who had the courage to join the Air Force, is also gone now. more to our country’s defence than All of us combined.” ~~Yes, he is indeed a brave Indian ; in fact HE is MORE INDIAN than anyone else - His sacrifice can never ever be repaid by the Country !! He is almost a Martyr himself !! ~~ But our Great Nation does Not know this simple Giant -- India only knows that Super Rich Cricketers need to be conferred BHARAT RATNA while a bunch of actors and actresses need to be conferred PADMA VIBHUSHANs and PADMASHREEs !! *~~ But what about the ' Losers ' ?? बनकर या बिखरकर जीना तो है ही...... एक रोशनी सी आती है मुजमे जब आंखे बंद कर लेती हूं,एक आभा सी ,उन्मुक्त मुझ जैसी ही कोई मुजमे रहती है आसमान को ताकती और जमीन को नापती आंखे मेरी,,तमाम लोगों को दरकिनार कर खुद में ही जी लेना सिखाती है,कुछ निशब्द सी जिंदगी ,कुछ निशब्द शब्द तलाशती भावनाये मेरी,लगता है जिंदगी को भी तलाश जिन्दगी की है। ओफ्फो ।।।ये अतिशय जीने की आदतें ,ये रोशनदानों सी दुनिया औऱ,नंगे पॉव कही दूर जाने की इच्छाएं ,मेरी भी आदत है लिख ही देना इनकी बारीकियां, जो परेशान करती है जैसे किसी सुने कमरे में भंवरे की आवाज़ें ,लिख लेने से चीज़े क्लियर हो जाती है। परिंदा सा दिल ,रोज़ नई उड़ान भरता है,शाम होते ही जैसे हिसाब लगाने लगता है जैसे नई गाड़ी का ड्राइवर बार बार किलोमीटर चेक करता है न ठीक वैसे, आदत सी हो गयी है ,सच जानने से पहले अनुमान लगाने की,कुछ तो यू ही आप धापी में जीकर कबआये कब गए हो जाते है ,फिर भी जीना तो है बनकर या बिखरकर, दुनिया जितने सवाल नही पूछती ,उतने से ज्यादा हम खुद वकील की तरह सवाल करते है खुद से,खुद से लड़ने की नाकामयाब कोशिश और फिर डेरा दोस्तो का,हर व्यक्ति की अपनी अपनी गांठे होती है और अपने अपने उलझाव , खुद से खुद की बातचीत और हो गया कुछ विचारो का अंतिम संस्कार।। , ये महफिले भी तारीख दर तारीख जम ही जाती है ,कुछ लोग दर्द धुंआ करते कुछ दर्द हवा करते है , जी लेते है लोग फिर भी बनकर या बिखरकर , कभी बोजिल कभी हो जाती झिलमिल आंखे कभी कभी इन कनखियों से झांकती बिस्मिल आंखे। ,सफर सुहाना कहो या सुना सुना,चलना तो है ही, बनकर या बिखरकर ,फिर भी जीना है हँसकर,इस सफर को सुहाना कहो या सुना सुना ।। जी भी लेना दोस्तो जैसे भी जीना चाहो, जिंदगी तो ऐसे ही सताएगी बच्चे की तरह,जीना तो पड़ेगा ही बनकर या बिखरकर यशोदा सोलंकी

*Some hard facts* National Commission for Enterprises in Unorganised Sector (NCEUS) report 84% of the Muslim population of India lives on a daily income of less than Rs. 20. In other words, about 126 million of our brothers and sisters don’t even earn twenty rupees a day! Therefore, is it not the duty of wealthy Muslims to remedy this situation? in Islam Huqooqul ibaad (humanitarianism) has been given precedence over Huqooqullah. Unfortunately, most of us overlook this aspect of Islam. Ask anybody his reasons for performing Umra and the reply will invariably be; ‘for sawaab.’ But how many of us know that more ‘sawaab’ can be gathered right here in India by helping a needy person at half the price of an Umra? Let it be known that Allah does not expect a us to perform a “Nafil ibaadah” at the expense of the 126 million people wallowing in the muck of extreme poverty. : It is estimated that about 150,000 pilgrims travel to Makkah for Umra every year. And the average cost of the entire trip is around Rs. 140,000/- Therefore, the annual amount spent by Indian Muslims on Umra alone works out to a whopping Rs. 2100 crores! In comparison, the amount allocated in the last budget by the Government of India to the Ministry of Minority Affairs was Rs. 1000 crores. In the recent budget this allocation has been increased to 1740 crores, and as the Muslim community is not the only minority in India ( Krishan, Sikh, Parsi, Jain and Boddah are in Minority) it may get about 1400 crores that is, 80% of 1740 crores. In other words, we are spending about 700 crores more than the amount our country can afford to spend on us and that too on a non-obligatory ritual. And we have not taken into account multiple Hajjs As of now, the only beneficiaries of this expenditure are the tour operators, the airline companies and the oil-rich Saudi economy. It is beyond comprehension that such huge sums could be spent every year at a time when the socio-economic conditions of the Muslims in India are in a pathetically hopeless state as brought out by the Sachar Committee Report. question is; will people go on a foreign holiday or Umra when God forbid their own father, mother or son is severely sick? If the answer is no, then let them know that 95% of our community is terribly sick as per the Sachar Report and hence this is not the time to enjoy our life neglecting the community. I am sure we all have heard of the hadith in which our beloved Prophet equated our ummah to the human body and said that even if one small section of the ummah is in pain the entire community must feel it. *Total average expenditure of one wedding = 6.4 lakh rupees* In a total Muslims population of 150 millions assuming that at least 150,000 (0.001 percent of 150 million) middle class weddings take place in a year in India, The total money spent by the Muslim community per year on weddings is: 150,000 weddings multiplied by 6.4 lakh rupees which equals Rs. 9600 crores!! Add to this the 2100 crore rupees spent on Umras and another 400 crores for holidaying. In other words Muslims in India spend a minimum of Rs. 12100 crores per year on extravagant weddings, non-obligatory pilgrimages and unnecessary travel. *Let us now see how much it costs to educate a child.* At an average annual fees of Rs. 10,000, the cost of educating a child from LKG to 12th standard is 14 years x 10,000 = Rs. 140,000 For 4 years of technical education @ Rs. 100,000 per year = Rs. 400,000 Total cost= Rs. 540, 000 Dividing 12,100 crores by 540,000 we get 222,407 This means, more than 222 thousand poor Muslim children can be educated for 18 years on the money spent in just one year by the rich Muslims on avoidable expenditure!!!! Let's concentrate on Huqooqul ibaad for the moment as the condition of our community is very bad. Allah is not in need of our Umras or multiple Hajjs. But our Ummah is in desperate need of humanitarian help. Any contribution towards this would be worth several hundred times the sawaab of an Umra or a second Hajj. In this context, I would like to invite the attention of my wealthy brethren to the following hadith in Bukhari in which the Prophet said; ”One who strives for the widows and the poor is like the one who strives in the way of Allah. I shall regard him as one who stands up for prayer without rest and as one who fasts without break.”

The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) is planning to take strict action against realty developers whose ongoing projects would remain unregistered even after September 1, said a top official of the regulator. “We have received 12,700 applications for registration of ongoing projects. Out of these, we have already processed and registered 8,000 projects. Remaining applications will be processed over the next one week,” said MahaRERA chairperson Gautam Chatterjee. “We will deal with those (project developers) required to be registered but not registered until September 1 in a strict manner.” From September 1, information on all these registered projects will be available on the MahaRERA portal. Following this, homebuyers can send emails about ongoing projects, which are required to be registered but have not registered so far, directly to the regulator, he said on the sidelines of a FICCI- Grant Thornton Advisory conference here. So far, the regulator has received total 30 complaints from homebuyers of ongoing projects and most of them are related to the issue of delay in delivery. MahaRERA has already taken a decision to slap a minimum penalty of Rs 1 lakh or an amount equivalent of its registration fees, whichever is higher, for ongoing projects registration applications to be received between August 3 and August 16. The project registration fee ranges from minimum of Rs 50,000 to Rs 10 lakh depending on the size of the specific project. This quantum of penalty was applicable for all applications received in the office of MahaRERA until 5pm of 16 August. Applications made for registration of ongoing projects after August 16 will be heard on case-to-case basis and the penalty will be decided by the authority. The builder then will have to explain as to why the application cannot be rejected. The government enacted the Real Estate (Regulation & Development) Act 2016 and all the sections of the Act have come into force with effect from May 1 this year. Maharashtra was one of the first states to notify its rules under the Act and establish authority MahaRERA. The builders had to register their ongoing projects with their respective state RERAs within three months and deadline for the same was set at July 31. Without registering their ongoing projects, the developer is not allowed to undertake marketing or selling of their projects. As the rules, if the promoter allegedly contravenes the provision of Section 3 – it deals with registration, selling and marketing of new and ongoing projects - he will be liable to pay penalty up to 10% of the project’s estimated cost as determined by the authority. Until the midnight of July 31, the regulator had received total 10,852 applications for registration of ongoing projects across Maharashtra. The regulator had earlier decided to levy a fine of Rs 50,000 on applications received after the deadline of July 31 until August 2.The regulator had received 500 applications for registration of ongoing projects until August 2.

It is *lack of non-judgmental* friendships. It is a result of *fast and busy lives* where nobody has time to just sit and watch someone cry. It is a result of *instant and impatient lifestyle* practices, that *emotions have started feeling like a waste of time*. We have *Whats App, Facetime and social media* - and we also have *stress, anxiety and depression*. Our forefathers had neither.... Because they talked to each other...... Because talking helps..... The *face-to-face* type talking, the *just-listen-to-me* type talking, the *hold-my-hand-and-let-me-cry* type talking, the *sit-next-to-me-and-listen-to-my-silence* type talking... the talking where *persons can be themselves and say anything they feel without the fear of any judgement or loss or rejection*. Today, we don't like that type of talking! In fact we *avoid people*. Naturally, it has led to mental illnesses....which are becoming an epidemic. There is not much we can do but we can offer *listening* ! Let's let people talk without any fear. Let's create conversations. *Let's start talking again*.

The Brockville Railway Tunnel is Canada's first railway tunnel. It is located beneath the city of Brockville, Ontario and passes under the building to the north, built in 1863-64 as the Victoria Hall, but remodelled as the Brockville City Hall after 1904. The tunnel runs in a north/south direction from Water Street, for a distance of 527 m (1,730 ft). It was built by the Brockville and Ottawa Railway. Construction on the tunnel began in September 1854, but was not opened for rail traffic until December 31, 1860. The tunnel was designed to provide a rail link from the timber trade of the Ottawa Valley to the Brockville port facilities on the St. Lawrence River ship route. The Brockville and Ottawa Railway, incorporated in 1853, ran from Brockville, through Smiths Falls, to Sand Point, nearArnprior, with a branch line from Smiths Fallsto Perth.[1] Its first B&OR train left Brockville on January 25, 1859, almost two years before finances permitted completion of the tunnel. The Brockville and Ottawa Railway amalgamated in 1878 with the Canada Central Railway, which was later absorbed in 1881 by the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). The rail line through the tunnel was later used by special height-shortened steam engines, and then diesel trains into the mid-1970s. The rails and ties were then sold, removed in the 1980s, and the Railway Tunnel was no longer used as it was built. In 1982, the tunnel was turned over to the City of Brockville by Marathon Realty, the real-estate wing of the Canadian Pacific Railway. During the Spring-Fall visitor season, the first 85 feet of the original tunnel has been opened daily for visitors. The historical story of the tunnel and a picture display can be viewed inside the tunnel. The current display track was installed to the original 5 foot 6 inchprovincial gauge. Adjacent to the tunnel is a refurbished CPRcaboose that was donated in 1987 to the city by the Canadian Pacific Railway. A detailed plaque,[2] in both English & French, describes the details and story of how cabooses were formerly part of every train. In 2016, the Railway Tunnel underwent an interior rehabilitation to make it possible for citizens and visitors to travel on foot through the inside, from the south portal to the north portal, coming out at the north-end gorge and ramp to the street level. As of August 12th, 2017, the construction is complete and the tunnel is open to the public.

THE NAKED TRUTH OF LIFE There was a man with four wives. He loved his fourth wife the most and took great care of her and gave her the best. He also loved his third wife and always wanted to show her off to his friends. However, he always had a fear that she might runaway with some other man. He loved his second wife too. Whenever he faced some problems, he always turned to his second wife and she would always help him out. He did not love his first wife though she loved him deeply, was very loyal to him and took great care of him. One day the man fell very ill and knew that he is going to die soon. "No way!" she replied and walked away without another word. He asked his third wife. She said "Life is so good over here. I'm going to remarry when you die" He then asked his second wife. She said "I'm Sorry. I can't help you this time around. At the most I can only accompany you till your grave." By now his heart sank and he turned cold. Then a voice called out: "I'll go with you. Very Important info:- "A couple lost their 25 year old son in a fire at home on June 4th. The son who had graduated with MBA, two weeks earlier had come home for a while. He had lunch with his dad at home and decided to go back to bed.His father told him to wait, to meet his mother, before he went back. He decided to take a nap while waiting for his mom to come back home from work. Some time later their neighbors called 911 when they saw black smoke coming out of the house. Unfortunately, the 25 years old died in the three year old house. It took several days of investigation to find out the cause of the fire. It was determined that the fire was caused by the laptop resting on the bed. When the laptop was on the bed cooling fan did not get the air to cool the computer and that is what caused the fire. He did not even wake up to get out of the bed because he died of breathing in carbon monoxide emitted out of burnt laptop. The reason I am sharing this to all of you is that many of us and also our brothers & sisters sons & daughters friends & family using the laptop while in bed.
