ग्लोबल वार्मिंग धरती के वातावरण के तापमान में लगातार हो रही बढ़ोतरी है। अभी के समय में यह दुनिया की सबसे बड़ी समस्या है। ग्लोबल वार्मिंग के लिए सबसे ज्यादा जिम्मेदार तो मनुष्य और उसकी गतिविधियां (एक्टिविटीज ) ही हैं। वैज्ञानिकों के अनुसार अगर इसे ना रोक गया तो 21वीं सदी में पृथ्वी का तापमान 3 से 8 डिग्री तक बढ़ सकता है। इसका असर तापमान बढ़ने के साथ साथ समुद्र सतह में बढ़ोतरी भी है जिसके फलस्वरूप तटीय किनारे डूब सकते है। मनुष्य और पशु - पक्षीयों पर भी इसका बुरा प्रभाव पड़ता है।

एक पोस्टमैन ने एक घर के दरवाजे पर दस्तक देते हुए कहा,"चिट्ठी ले लीजिये।"अंदर से एक बालिका की आवाज आई,"आ रही हूँ।"लेकिन तीन-चार मिनट तक कोई न आया तो पोस्टमैन ने फिर कहा,"अरे भाई!मकान में कोई है क्या,अपनी चिट्ठी ले लो।"लड़की की फिर आवाज आई,"पोस्टमैन साहब,दरवाजे के नीचे से चिट्ठी अंदर डाल दीजिए,मैं आ रही हूँ।"पोस्टमैन ने कहा,"नहीं,मैं खड़ा हूँ,रजिस्टर्ड चिट्ठी है,पावती पर तुम्हारे साइन चाहिये।"करीबन छह-सात मिनट बाद दरवाजा खुला।पोस्टमैन इस देरी के लिए झल्लाया हुआ तो था ही और उस पर चिल्लाने वाला था ही,लेकिन दरवाजा खुलते ही वह चौंक गया,सामने एक अपाहिज कन्या जिसके पांव नहीं थे,सामने खड़ी थी।पोस्टमैन चुपचाप पत्र देकर और उसके साइन लेकर चला गया।हफ़्ते,दो हफ़्ते में जब कभी उस लड़की के लिए डाक आती,पोस्टमैन एक आवाज देता और जब तक वह कन्या न आती तब तक खड़ा रहता।एक दिन उसने पोस्टमैन को नंगे पाँव देखा।दीपावली नजदीक आ रही थी।उसने सोचा पोस्टमैन को क्या ईनाम दूँ। एक दिन जब पोस्टमैन डाक देकर चला गया,तब उस लड़की ने,जहां मिट्टी में पोस्टमैन के पाँव के निशान बने थे,उन पर काग़ज़ रख कर उन पाँवों का चित्र उतार लिया।अगले दिन उसने अपने यहाँ काम करने वाली बाई से उस नाप के जूते मंगवा लिये।दीपावली आई और उसके अगले दिन पोस्टमैन ने गली के सब लोगों से तो ईनाम माँगा और सोचा कि अब इस बिटिया से क्या इनाम लेना?पर गली में आया हूँ तो उससे मिल ही लूँ। उसने दरवाजा खटखटाया।अंदर से आवाज आई,"कौन?"पोस्टमैन,उत्तर मिला।बालिका हाथ में एक गिफ्ट पैक लेकर आई और कहा,"अंकल,मेरी तरफ से दीपावली पर आपको यह भेंट है।"पोस्टमैन ने कहा,"तुम तो मेरे लिए बेटी के समान हो,तुमसे मैं गिफ्ट कैसे लूँ?"कन्या ने आग्रह किया कि मेरी इस गिफ्ट के लिए मना नहीं करें।"ठीक है कहते हुए पोस्टमैन ने पैकेट ले लिया।बालिका ने कहा,"अंकल इस पैकेट को घर ले जाकर खोलना।घर जाकर जब उसने पैकेट खोला तो विस्मित रह गया,क्योंकि उसमें एक जोड़ी जूते थे।उसकी आँखें भर आई।अगले दिन वह ऑफिस पहुंचा और पोस्टमास्टर से फरियाद की कि उसका तबादला फ़ौरन कर दिया जाए।पोस्टमास्टर ने कारण पूछा,तो पोस्टमैन ने वे जूते टेबल पर रखते हुए सारी कहानी सुनाई और भीगी आँखों और रुंधे कंठ से कहा,"आज के बाद मैं उस गली में नहीं जा सकूँगा।उस अपाहिज बच्ची ने तो मेरे नंगे पाँवों को तो जूते दे दिये पर मैं उसे पाँव कैसे दे पाऊँगा?"
